Afghan and Ukrainian Project

On June 14, 2021, DHS issued regulations exempting certain Afghan nationals from the material support bar.  All attorneys should review the regulations to see if their client falls within any exception.  Here is a summary of the regulations.

U7L and several partners sponsored a CLE in February 2022 to ensure that Afghani nationals relocated to Montana would be met with pro bono legal assistance in navigating their asylum claims. The CLE event and related materials for volunteering to serve asylum seekers are linked here. Given recent events in Ukraine, the network of partners that has worked on this project expanded its focus to welcome Ukrainian nationals to Montana as well.
