Position: Right to Know Legal Fellow

Upper Seven Law seeks a motivated individual to join our team for a one- or two-year term as a Right to Know Legal Fellow.  This role involves working alongside U7L’s Executive Director and Litigation Director in pursuing litigation, writing information requests, conducting legal research, interacting with the press, developing legal strategies, and engaging in other legal and administrative work as needed.  The position is internally funded. 

Ideal candidates will have an entrepreneurial and action-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal skills; ability to work independently; excellent organization and prioritization skills; a rigorous attention to detail; a team-oriented attitude; and accomplished legal writing, research, and communication skills.  Enthusiasm for engaging creatively and dynamically with social justice problems and potential litigation opportunities is essential.

Position: Roadshow Associate

Upper Seven Law seeks a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Roadshow Associate.  In this role, you will support Upper Seven Law’s educational initiative, the Montana Constitution Roadshow, by coordinating outreach and communications efforts, managing event logistics and bookings, creating social media posts associated with the Roadshow and other work, and cultivating relationships with community partners and stakeholders, and you will support the legal team with operational and research support.

The position involves significant travel across Montana with Upper Seven’s executive director to support on-site execution of events. While the role’s primary focus is Roadshow support, the Roadshow Associate will also have regular opportunities to  support Upper Seven Law attorneys with litigation and government accountability projects.

This position is excellent for individuals interested in non-profits, public interest advocacy, and who may be interested in applying to law school down the line.  Your work at Upper Seven Law will teach you about attorneys’ day-to-day tasks in a civil rights/plaintiffs’ firm, and you will have many opportunities to learn about the law as well as nonprofit operations. Position: Staff Attorney

Upper Seven Law seeks a motivated individual to join our team as Staff Attorney.  This role involves working alongside U7L’s Executive Director and Litigation Director in pursuing litigation, writing information requests, conducting legal research, interacting with the press, developing legal strategies, and engaging in other legal and administrative work as needed.

Ideal candidates will have prior litigation experience, as well as an entrepreneurial and action-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal skills; ability to work independently; excellent organization and prioritization skills; a rigorous attention to detail; a team-oriented attitude; and accomplished legal writing, research, and communication skills.  Enthusiasm for engaging creatively and dynamically with social justice problems and potential litigation opportunities is essential.

Position: Impact Associate

Upper Seven Law seeks a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Impact Associate.  In this role, you will work as a partner to Upper Seven Law attorneys in supporting litigation and accountability projects. Assignments vary depending on individual cases and investigations; in previous years, Impact Associates have conducted factual research and investigation, drafted declarations, prepared attorneys and witnesses for depositions, conducted initial review of discovery documents, assisted with narrative waiver requests, authored blog posts, and assisted with legal research.  You will also provide administrative support, including organizing files, fact-checking and proofreading, preparing documents for filing, managing calendars, and maintaining Upper Seven Law’s website and other platforms.

The ideal candidate will be committed to learning quickly and will have: an entrepreneurial and action-oriented mindset; strong interpersonal skills; excellent organization and prioritization skills; rigorous attention to detail; a team-oriented attitude; and accomplished writing, research, and communication skills.  Enthusiasm for engaging creatively and dynamically with social justice problems and potential litigation opportunities is essential.
